A polymath biochemist with diverse interest and much experience in different fields of biology, from molecular biology and biochemistry, through evolution and ecology, to plant natural products and biochemical microbiology.

מחקרי עוסקים בביוכימיה בהקשרים אבולוציונים וסביבתיים, דהיינו, בהבנה כיצד יצורים חיים מגיבים לסביבתם ואחד לשני ברמה הביוכימית וכיצד נוכל להשתמש בידע זה כדי לשפר תהליכים שונים, מייצור ביו-דלקים ועד טיפול במי שופכין.כיוון שנושאים אלו מטיבעם כוללים פנים רבות אנו עובדים רבות בשיתוף פעולה עם אנשים אחרים ממגוון אוניברסיטאות ומכונים.

 מחקרים לדוגמא (ראו גם רשימת הפרסומים):

ביו-דלקים:

 * טיפולים מקדימים טובים יותר - לטובת טיפול מבוזר בפסולת חקלאית

* חיפוש שמרים מתסיסים טובים יותר לייצור ביואתנול.

* חיפוש מקורות חדשים ל-feedstock

* חיפוש אנזימים טובים יותר - ליפאזות לביודיזל וצלולאזות לביואתנול.

טיפול במים:

* הבנה טובה יותר של תהליכי קטילת חיידקים במים ע"י UV (עם ד"ר הדס ממן מאוניברסיטת ת"א)

 * טיהור שפכים בקנה מידה קטן ע"י שילוב אגנים ירוקים ומערכות UV פשוטות כפתרון ליישובים קטנים ומבודדים בגליל, ברשות הפלסטינאית ובירדן (עם ד"ר חסן עזיאזה, אגודת הגליל ומכללת תל חי, פרופ' קרל לינדן, א. קולורדו בבולדר)

 אקולוגיה:

 * הפצת זרעים, גלוקוזינולטים ומירוזנז בצמח רכפתן המדבר (Ochradenus baccatus) ותכונות אנטי-פטרתיות ואנטי סרטניות של צמח זה (עם פרופ' עידו יצחקי, א. חיפה).

 * התפתחות עפצי אלות - מחומרי טבע ועד פרוטאומיקה (עם פרופ' משה ענבר, א. חיפה)

 * משמעות ה"דגל" במרווה הדגולה (עם ד"ר תמר קיסר, א. חיפה)
