Research Group for Political Education to Strengthen Civic Competencies for Democratic Values
Rationale:
In an era of growing socio-political polarization and ongoing national crises, political education has become one of the central challenges facing the education system. Our research group addresses this challenge by developing a renewed conceptualization of political education and proposing practical models to meet the needs of today’s classrooms.
Grounded in empirical data collected from the field, our work seeks not only to analyze but also to contribute back to the educational community with meaningful insights. We make a clear distinction between political education and ideological indoctrination or partisan preaching. Instead, we advocate for a framework rooted in democratic values—one that fosters critical thinking, civic awareness, and engagement with contemporary social issues.
Through systematic analysis of teaching practices, we have developed the REACT model: an innovative roadmap for political education built around five stages—Recognize emotions, Enrich knowledge, Analyze critically, Conclude with evidence-based positions, and Take action for social change.

Expanding research on cultivating political-democratic literacy across diverse educational systems:

a. Religious and Arab education systems:
This line of research will examine how political-democratic education, critical thinking, and civic awareness are expressed within educational contexts shaped by distinct cultural, national, and religious characteristicsת particularly among populations not included in the first stage of the study.

b. Higher education:

The research will be extended to faculty members and students in academic institutions, with the aim of understanding how civic competencies, political-emotional awareness, and critical thinking skills develop within teacher-education programs and additional academic training frameworks.

c. Professional development for teachers (REACT and SPEL):
Further studies will focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development programs grounded in the research models. This includes assessing the effectiveness of integrating these models into teaching practices, pedagogical processes, and the advancement of civic-emotional competencies.
